On October 13, 2016, members of the Chelsea Fire Company, along with members of the City of Beacon, Glenham, and Dutchess Junction Fire Departments, participated in a fire prevention event at the Beacon High School. The event was the first fire prevention event conducted at Beacon High School in the history of the Beacon School District and included various activities for the students and faculty to interact with the local fire departments and learn vital fire safety and prevention information.
Students and faculty that attended the event were allowed to try on personal protective equipment, including turnout gear and SCBA, and utilize thermal imaging cameras to search for fire victims. Attendees were also presented with safety information regarding multiple topics, including cooking safety, electronics safety, smoke and carbon monoxide alarm placement and maintenance, and how to create and practice a fire evacuation plan. Students were also asked fire safety questions and, after providing a correct answer, were given raffle tickets for gift cards to various businesses in the surrounding area.
The Chelsea Fire District would like to thank the Beacon High School for the opportunity to conduct the event and sincerely appreciate the hospitality provided. We would also like to thank the City of Beacon Fire Department, Glenham Fire Department, and Dutchess Junction Fire Department for their assistance and participation in what was a successful fire prevention event.
